Random Ten Right Place to Say Goodbye edition

Mountain Music Of Kyrgyzstan: Music Of Central Asia, Vol. 1

1. Dr. John, live at Tipitina's, Mardi Gras, 1989. Spectacular album. But then I'm partial to Dr John's brew of Zydeco, Crescent City R&B, and oddity.

2. Lucinda Williams, in certain moods, can make a listener bawl. The album is better than I anticipated, the songs stretched out a bit. Ms. Williams claims this particular song is influenced by ZZ-Top. Could be in the guitar tone, I suppose. Lots of sustain.

3. Kronos Quartet plays songs from R.D. Burman's Bollywood. Instrumental.

4. Vienna Symphonic Orchestra doing Stairway? Umm, can we say, novelty tune. Close, very close to a parody of elevator music which fails miserably. Some truly awful background vocals. Horrible drum machine too. Bleh.

5. Joe Cocker - Something. The album that made Joe Cocker cry with tears of rage, frustration, and anger towards Leon Russell. New to me, though D said she used to own it. A George Harrison song, sung with reckless emotional abandonment, not on the original release for some reason (space probably).

6. Raconteurs - Jack White's side project. Is this who Dylan was griping about? Not bad. Ask me in a year if I still like it.

7. Sergio Mendes - makes me want to dance around the office, shimmy my hips. (see my previous 'review')

8. Scott Walker - I wanted to like this, but so far, nyet.

9. Camera Obscura. Like the album title at least. Sort of poppy and light, yet for some reason, is sticking in my head.

10. Tengir-Too - I'd like to go to this region of the world, if I can avoid being boiled in oil for espousing atheism and green power. Didn't our fearless leader look deeply into the eyes of Kyrgyzstan's despot and pronounce him a 'good egg', or whatever it is that the Dauphin chirps? Maybe not, I get my Central Asian countries mixed up.
