Strange, why were all the trial balloons floated this weekend about Bolton being under-secretary or some other lesser post? Perhaps Bush's handlers and media lackeys should have consulted with Bolton first.
Bolton to Resign As U.N. Ambassador - WSJ.com :President Bush has accepted the resignation of U.N. Ambassador John Bolton when his recess appointment expires. Mr. Bolton's nomination has languished in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for more than a year, blocked by Democrats and several Republicans.
Although Bush could not give Bolton another recess appointment, the White House was believed to be exploring other ways of keeping him in the job, perhaps by giving him a title other than ambassador. But Mr. Bolton informed the White House he intended to leave when his current appointment expires, White House deputy press secretary Dana Perino said. Mr. Bush planned to meet with Bolton and his wife later Monday in the Oval Office.
Goo goo gajoob
The UN was a worthless organization before Bolton arrived and is now dead. Bolton has done an exceptional job trying to make the UN relevant. Elitists Senators doomed the UN and Bolton their lack of support and narrow views blocked Bolton’s efforts to make the UN relevant.
We no longer need the UN its time has passed. It now just dens of thieves bend on personnel gains and greed. There is no consensus or goals for world good. It is now time to ask the UN to leave. The only benefit the US can get now is in selling the land and UN buildings to the highest bidder.
What has the UN done in the last 30 years, the answer is nothing. The UN is irrelevant organization whose time has pasted. Lets move on!
The U.N. has a definite role in dialogue between nations, and Bolton's sole job was to embarrass the U.S. He seems to have succeeded at that admirably.
Seth, I think this guy has some interesting thoughts that you just can't dismiss offhand.
My favorites: That Bolton tried to make the UN "relevant" - didn't he spend a lot of time saying it wasn't relevant? I say good for him for stepping up to the plate, pushing down his own personal views to try to really make a difference.
The idea that the UN is no longer needed because it doesn't "benefit the US". I always suspected that "benefitting the US" was one of the UN's primary missions. I learned that in my Imperialistic Thoughts 101 class.
"It [sic] now just dens of thieves bend [sic] on personnel gain". I'm assuming the indefinite pronoun reference is in reference to the "elitist" senate because clearly the "personnel" gains refer to Sen. Folly... er.. Foley. Hrmm, maybe those were actually personnel losses - hind site is 20/20.
As for the pasting of time, I'm sure that theory can only rival Einstein's.
Some mornings when I have too much work to do, I procrastinate like a fiend, and examining my web logs is worth several minutes. So, I thought it quite funny to imagine who "Tom" is, who clicked through from the WSJ site to my page (via the WSJ's Technorati link). A subscription to the WSJ is $80 a year, if you are a print subscriber, I imagined "Tom" to be an employee (albeit a quasi-literate employee) of Mr. Bolton, or otherwise involved with NeoCon(artist) think tanks.
