Buffalo Trace Bourbon – cocktail with muddled mint, orange bitters, Bonal Gentiane Quina was uploaded to Flickr

Not sure exactly to call this, close to a Manhattan, but not quite. Mainly due to the muddled mint, and because I used more bourbon than a Manhattan would call for.

Page Museum, aka La Brea Tar Pits

The La Brea Tar Pits (or Rancho La Brea Tar Pits) are a cluster of tar pits around which Hancock Park was formed, in urban Los Angeles. Asphaltum or tar (brea in Spanish) has seeped up from the ground in this area for tens of thousands of years. The tar is often covered with dust, leaves, or water. Over many centuries, animals that were trapped in the tar were preserved as bones. The George C. Page Museum is dedicated to researching the tar pits and displaying specimens from the animals that died there. The La Brea Tar Pits are now a registered National Natural Landmark.

Looking At Lolita (Sue Lyon) was uploaded to Flickr

My photo doesn’t give this contraption justice – basically a slide show viewer as would be used by Humbert Humbert (James Mason). You could move the magnifier to view different slides.

No You Cannot Use My Photo For Free Part 91

Old Town Triangle District

Old Town Triangle District

I received this email last week:

Hi- your photo of the Old Town Triangle/ Historic District sign is fantastic. I’d love to use it for a mailing…I’m a Realtor. How do you feel about that and how would you want to be credited for the image?
Thanks-Jennifer Kindel

I politely responded that I’d let her use the photo for a reduced rate of $300, asked where I should send her a purchase order, and then even asked as a post script if she had any interesting loft style properties she could show us, preferably live/work buildings.

I never heard from Ms. Kindel again. She only wanted an image to use for free in her mailer, I’m sure she frequently agrees to waive her real estate commission when she sells a place, right? I wonder if she pays anything to the USPS when she sends out her mailer? Probably not, they don’t expect compensation for their work either.

If I wanted to send a follow-up, it wouldn’t be too difficult, here’s Jennifer Kindel’s LinkedIn page, her Twitter account, her Prudential-Rubloff home page, and so on. But I guess no response is enough of a response, actually better than an indignant reply, as long as she doesn’t go ahead and use the photo without compensating me.

This image made into Flickr Explore for some reason. I know I always am surprised when a particular image makes it in, but really, is this photo of bricks and mortar really that much better than every other photo of bricks and mortar I’ve taken?

Tinkling the Ivories was uploaded to Flickr

Not sure if this was a member of the Club who wanted to play a bit of jazz, or a paid performer.

The Cliff Dwellers: As seen during the Chicago Architectural Society’s Open House, 2013.

http://ift.tt/JkAbH4

Cliff Dwellers sits on top of 220 S. Michigan Avenue, just under the iconic Borg Warner sign. Founded in 1907 as the Attic Club, it was renamed The Cliff Dwellers in 1909. After inhabiting the top floor of neighboring Orchestra Hall for decades, Cliff Dwellers moved to the 22nd floor of the Borg Warner building in 1996. It remains a private club and is a non-profit organization for men and women who support the fine and performing arts. The club is a haven for artists, authors, musicians, painters, architects and sculptors. Notable members have included Louis Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright, Lorado Taft and Hamlin Garland.
